Bakersfield Imaging Services

Applying advanced technology & the latest imaging methods

At Adventist Health Bakersfield, our Quest Imaging locations offer a wide variety of state-of-the-art imaging services to diagnose and treat health issues.

3D mammography

Our 3D mammograms are performed exclusively at Quest Imaging in conjunction with a routine, 2D mammogram (same machine, same technologist). It’s a low-dose, brief X-ray sweep around the positioned breast, taking multiple images in a matter of seconds. These mammograms produce a 3D image of breast tissue in 1 mm slices, providing greater ability for the physician to make a clear diagnosis.

CT (CAT) scan

Quest offers state-of-the-art, 64-slice low radiation CT technology that can automatically reduce the radiation dose to the ideal amount based on an individual patient’s body type. The scan uses radiation and specialized computers to reconstruct a series of pictures into clear images that show internal body structure. It’s used for diagnosing broken bones, cancer, blood clots, abdominal conditions and internal bleeding.

DEXA scan

The DEXA scan (dual energy X-ray absorptiometry) measures bone density using very low-dose X-ray, usually of the hip and lower spine. This is the latest form of X-ray technology and takes just minutes.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)

3 Tesla MRI is used at Quest Imaging for high-quality imaging leading to shorter exam times and faster diagnosis. This MRI technology uses a large magnet and radio waves to look inside your body. It does not expose you to X-ray radiation as it produces accurate and extensively detailed pictures showing differences between healthy and unhealthy tissue. It’s used for diagnosing torn ligaments, tumors, brain or spinal cord conditions and examining organs.

Nuclear medicine

Quest Imaging offers the newest advancements in nuclear medicine, including the exclusive five-minute heart test. Nuclear medicine uses radioactive substances and a special camera to see inside your body. These scans can show how organs, such as your heart and lungs are working. It’s used for diagnosing blood clots, cancer, heart disease, injuries, infections and thyroid problems.

PET/CT

State-of-the-art PET/CT at Quest Imaging provides faster, high-definition images while its open design allows access to virtually all patients and minimizes radiation exposure. The PET/CT is a type of nuclear medicine imaging that measures important body functions, such as blood flow, oxygen use and sugar to help doctors evaluate how well organs and tissues are functioning. It can be used to detect cancer and diagnose Alzheimer’s disease.

Ultrasound and X-ray

Quest Imaging offers both of these services for patients. Ultrasounds are used for diagnosing conditions of the heart, blood vessels, kidneys, liver and other organs. During pregnancy, a healthcare provider also uses an ultrasound to look at the baby.

X-rays are used to diagnose broken bones, pneumonia and dental problems. Quest Imaging’s all-digital X-ray devices result in quicker turnaround times and better diagnosis, while eliminating the possibility of lost film.
