Adventist Health Ukiah Valley Governing Board Presents 2019 Scholarship

News

The Governing Board of Adventist Health Ukiah Valley created a scholarship in response to a growing need for fully fluent Spanish and English-speaking nurses in our community. The ideal scholarship recipient will be entering the medical sciences/ nursing fields with a desire to return to our community to care for friends, family and neighbors. “This scholarship reflects our board’s commitment to the future of healthcare in Mendocino County,” said board member, Mary Ann Villwock.

Typically, the Board has committed to one $1,000 scholarship per year. This year, because of their generosity, they have decided to increase it to $3,000. The committee was unanimous in its decision to present this year’s scholarship to Ukiah High School Senior, Olivia Lucchetti.

Olivia ranks in the top 10% of her class with a GPA of 3.91. Olivia’s Spanish teacher, Bobby Taylor comments, “Olivia has enrolled in Spanish 4 Advanced Placement…earning the Seal of Bi-literacy. Her mastery of communication in English and Spanish will surely assist her in becoming a respected and successful nurse.”

Olivia is serious about her nursing career, choosing to attend the University of Nevada at Reno in order to avoid the California lottery system. “I have taken many steps to prepare myself for the nursing field…I have taken classes to gain hands on experience such as Scrubs, CPR, first-aid certification, Human Biology and Medical Terminology,” writes Olivia in her essay.

The Governing Board at AHUV is proud to present this scholarship to Olivia Lucchetti and looks forward to welcoming her back home upon her graduation.
