Awards & Recognition

Ukiah, CA, May 29, 2019 – Adventist Health Ukiah Valley (AHUV) recently celebrated an ‘A’ from The Leapfrog Group’s spring 2019 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade. Receiving an “A” grade, ranks Adventist Health Ukiah Valley among the safest hospitals in the United States demonstrating a commitment to reducing errors, infections and accidents that can harm patients.

The Leapfrog Group assesses numerous patient safety measures including low infection rates, patient falls, preventable complications from surgery as well as high leadership engagement, clear communication of medication administration, staffing levels and provider communication. The performance measures included in this assessment offer a well-rounded safety grade for hospitals across the nation putting AHUV in the top tier.

“This recognition celebrates the commitment our team shows every day. Safety is the cornerstone of care here at Adventist Health Ukiah Valley and I am very proud to have our team recognized for their work. Our patients and community deserve the very best care here, locally and to have received this “A” Safety Grade is an example the quality healthcare we provide here in Mendocino County,” comments Adventist Health Ukiah Valley President, Jason Wells.

The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization committed to improving health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers. The Safety Grade assigns an ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ or ‘F’ grade to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care.

“Our team at Adventist Health Ukiah Valley is continually working to perfect systems that increase safety throughout every level of care. This A grade is a confirmation to our team’s dedication to safety and commitment to making a difference for our community,” shares Chief Nursing Executive, Lindsey Spencer.

“To be recognized nationally as an ‘A’ hospital is an accomplishment the whole community should take pride in,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Hospitals that earn an ‘A’ grade are making it a priority to protect patients from preventable medical harm and error. We congratulate hospital leaders, board members, staff, volunteers and clinicians who work so hard to earn this A.”

Developed under the guidance of a national Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.
