Family medicine physician joins Adventist Health Physicians Network Tulare
TULARE – Roy Chan, MD, a board-certified family medicine physician, has joined the medical staff at Adventist Health Physicians Network Tulare Multispecialty.
When he was a student, with no medical insurance, he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. As a cancer survivor, Dr. Chan says he can relate to patients who are navigating the healthcare system.
“The experience gave me insight into the struggles that patients have in finding good care,” says Dr. Chan. “It taught me the importance and effectiveness of delivering medical care in a compassionate manner and inspired me to devote my career to providing quality medical care delivered with empathy.”
Dr. Chan has practiced medicine in Tulare for more than 10 years. He was drawn to primary care as a specialty because it allows him to fight chronic medical conditions with preventative medicine.
He earned his medical degree from the University of Kentucky, College of Medicine in Lexington and undergraduate degree in molecular, cellular and developmental biology from Yale University. He was drawn to the Central Valley because of its climate and the need for primary care providers.
Dr. Chan has extensive experience treating local veterans. He works with the Veteran’s Administration (VA) healthcare system to help veterans navigate the system and optimize their healthcare experience.
When not caring for patients, he enjoys exercising outdoors, growing and training bonsai trees, and breeding rare guppies.
