Rapid Care, when you need it!
Many would agree that 2020 has been a very challenging year.
It’s a year that 90-year-old Dorene Plechaty became a widow, moved over 1,000 miles from her home of 37 years in Denver, Colo., back to her home state of California, to be closer to family in Visalia, Calif., and experienced a health scare less than a month after moving.
“I woke up one morning and had two very large red bumps on my neck and right elbow,” says Plechaty. “I thought they might be hives.”
When the bumps didn’t go away after a few days, Plechaty decided to visit the doctor, but being in a new city, she hadn’t yet established care with a primary care provider. So, her daughter took her to Adventist Health Rapid Care in Tulare, Calif., which had just celebrated its grand opening on August 10.
“I was very impressed,” says Plechaty. “Usually, when you visit the doctor, you’re on edge, but the provider made me feel so comfortable. She took her time answering my questions, provided me with information and was very easy to talk to, which is very important to me.”
The provider, Rebecca Murphey, certified family nurse practitioner, discovered the red bumps to be bug bites. She prescribed medication, which Plechaty said worked right away and alleviated the itching.
As for the rest of 2020, Plechaty is looking forward to good health and a Thanksgiving camping trip in Santa Barbara County with her daughter, 4 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Plechaty says she’s already preparing for the trip by walking a half mile every day, so she can keep up with her grandkids. The family will be taking COVID-19 safety precautions and has secured a private cabin for Plechaty.
