Another A grade in patient safety for Adventist Health hospitals in Hanford and Selma
CENTRAL VALLEY – Adventist Health in the Central Valley is committed to keeping patients safe, which is why the faith-based organization is pleased to have once again earned A grades in patient safety.
Adventist Health hospitals in Hanford and Selma received A grades in the spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national distinction recognizing the hospitals’ achievements in protecting patients from errors, injuries, accidents and infections. The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization committed to healthcare quality and safety. The group assigns A, B, C, D, or F grades to all general hospitals across the country and updates the grade every six months. It is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospitals’ prevention of medical errors and other harms to patients in their care.
This is Adventist Health Hanford’s fourth straight A grade. Adventist Health Selma received straight A’s between 2017-2019 and again in fall 2020 and spring 2021. Adventist Health Reedley and Adventist Health Tulare did not have enough data to participate in the survey.

Developed under the guidance of a national Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses up to 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,700 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.
