Holiday hospitality at Adventist Health Sonora

Adventist Health Sonora is proud to take part in this year’s nonprofit Christmas Tree Lane put on by the Sonora Chamber of Commerce.

Fruits and vegetables adorn our tree, with a pineapple crowning the top, not just because they’re healthy options but also because they represent a core value of Adventist Health: to Be Welcoming.

Being welcoming is embedded in the very word hospital. In fact, hospital and hospitality share the same Latin root with hotel, hospice, and host, all of which have to do with sheltering and caring for guests. Though booking a hotel for vacation is much more exciting than the prospect of a hospital stay, hospitality is a focus of our work just the same. It’s our goal to make sure every patient receives warm, welcoming and compassionate care.

Here are just a few of the ways the Adventist Health Sonora team is working to spread the spirit of hospitality, in and beyond the hospital this holiday season:

• An extra helping of stuffing and gravy: Our Nutritional Services team makes sure that patients staying with us on Thanksgiving, and all the caregivers hard at work, don’t miss out on at least one part of the holiday: a full turkey dinner and all the trimmings.
• Warmth and good cheer for Christmas: Our executive leaders visit patients staying in the hospital on Christmas and gift them a soft sherpa blanket to wrap them in the warmth of the holiday.
• Supporting those in need: Departments around the hospital and our outpatient clinics participate in a holiday food drive for our local food banks and Adopt-a-Family each year, which provide gifts and essentials to Mother Lode families. Associates participate in these traditions to in the hope that our neighbors in need feel loved and cared for, even outside our walls.
