Alan Cheung, MD Announces Retirement from Medical Officer Role
After 12 years as Adventist Health Castle’s Medical Officer, Dr. Alan Cheung has made the decision to retire from this role, effective March 26, 2021. He will remain on our medical staff as a general and transplant surgeon with Surgical Associates.
Dr. Cheung is a graduate of Harvard University and has been on Castle’s medical staff since October 1992. He was appointed as our first Medical Officer in January 2009.
During his tenure, Dr. Cheung has helped recruit our current talented and engaged providers – the hospitalists, intensivists, neurology group, neurosurgeon, ENT doctors, cardiologists, pulmonologist, PCPs, gastroenterologists, orthopedic surgeons, general surgeons, anesthesia group, all medical directors and psychiatric hospitalists – and played a key role in starting our Palliative Care, Primary Care Clinics, Rural Health Clinic, Cancer Center and Level III Trauma Center programs.
“Alan has been a valued member of our executive team who has worked hard to expand our services and create longstanding connections with other healthcare entities, such as the John A. Burns School of Medicine,” says Adventist Health Castle President Kathy Raethel. “I am grateful that he will remain a part of the team, delivering life-changing surgeries in Windward O`ahu for many more years.”
Chief of Staff Kore Liow, MD notes that, “Dr. Cheung has had a major impact not just on me but on many doctors at Adventist Health Castle. We could not do what we do today without his guidance, hard work and sacrifice. His legacy as medical officer will live on in our practices for years to come.”
