Newly opened Tulare Sleep Lab offers patients a restful nights’ sleep

News

TULARE – Community members in the Tulare area who struggle to experience a restful nights’ sleep may now seek relief from the Adventist Health Tulare Sleep Lab, which opened to patients January 28.

The Tulare Sleep Lab, located on the Adventist Health Tulare hospital campus, provides complete diagnostic exams of mild to severe sleep disorders and is equipped with the latest and most advanced technology to monitor sleep patterns, heart activities, breathing and body movements.

“A lack of sleep can be detrimental to a person’s health and may also trigger serious chronic conditions,” said Naeem Rana, MD, pulmonologist and sleep medicine specialist at the Tulare Sleep Lab. “Our goal in identifying and treating sleep disorders is to not only improve patients’ overall health, but to help them feel restored, rejuvenated and ready to reclaim their lives.”

Signs and symptoms of a sleep disorder may include:

  • Excessive daytime sleepiness and fatigue
  • Snoring loudly with periods of no breathing
  • Falling asleep while driving or doing other daytime activities
  • Waking with a dry throat
  • Experiencing morning headaches
  • Irritability and mood changes
  • Restless sleep

Designed with patients’ comfort in mind, the Tulare Sleep Lab’s specially trained technologists conduct overnight sleep studies with a referral from a primary care provider. After a patient is referred and the sleep study conducted, Dr. Rana interprets the results and provides recommendations to the patient’s provider, who will determine proper treatment and follow-up care. Treatment options may include the use of a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine; dental device; or, in rare cases, surgery, all of which help regulate sleep patterns.
