Adventist Health Glendale Receives ANCC Magnet Designation
After three and a half years of intensive preparations, review and inspections, the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) formally recognized Adventist Health Glendale as a Magnet-designated healthcare organization.
In a live call with Sharon Pappas, RN, PhD, NEA-BC, the chair of the Commission for the Magnet Recognition Program, Pappas issued the official designation, congratulated Jinhee Nguyen, Adventist Health Glendale’s patient care executive, and praised our organization’s 900 nurses for their professionalism, dedication and compassion.
The announcement marked Adventist Health Glendale’s first Magnet Recognition — the highest and most prestigious international distinction that a health care organization can receive for nursing.
The ANCC also commended Adventist Health Glendale for nine of its application exemplars, including:
- CNO’s leadership that led to a strategic organizational change. CNO Jinhee Nguyen in partnership with hospital president and CMO, created a multidisciplinary team to respond to needs during COVID surge to deliver safe and positive patient and employee outcomes.
- Innovation - Integrating artificial intelligence called “KATE” technology into Emergency Department triage aimed to enhance early identification of patients presenting with sepsis, allowing patients to receive treatment in a timely manner.
- Nursing sensitive indicators (Quality & Safety) - 100% of nursing units demonstrated commitment to quality and patient safety, including decreased falls, hospital-acquired pressure injuries, and infections.
- Patient satisfaction - 100% of the nursing units exhibited high performance in safety, the responsiveness of staff and pain management.
The standing room-only celebration featured a banner unveiling for members of the media, local elected leaders, and more than 100 Adventist Health Glendale associates.
According to the ANCC’s stringent review criteria, Magnet recognition represents:
- Superior nursing processes that improve nurse satisfaction and retention
- Unparalleled patient care with a direct link to positive patient outcomes
- The highest levels of safety and quality
“Preparing for Magnet designation, our hospital went through a rigorous process of evaluation by the Magnet Recognition Program of ANCC, which involved demonstrating excellence in nursing leadership, staff engagement and satisfaction, patient outcomes and quality of nursing practice,” explained Jinhee Nguyen. “Our organization is committed to providing the structure to provide evidence-based nursing care, support professional development and create a culture of innovation and excellence in nursing practice. For our patients and their families, this means they can have the utmost confidence in the quality of care they will receive.”
Adventist Health Glendale is the first health care facility in Glendale to receive ANCC Magnet recognition, the industry gold standard in nursing. Less than 9% of U.S. hospitals are Magnet-recognized.
