340B Prescription Drug Program

The 340B Prescription Drug Program supports our role as a safety-net provider in offering vital healthcare services in the communities we serve. The program is only for hospitals that provide a high level of services to low-income individuals or serve isolated rural communities. In 2022, Adventist Health Castle provided:

  • $ 5.5

    million from 340B savings

  • $ 4

    million invested in the community

  • $ 21.8

Million spent on supplemental Medicaid and Medicare

  • 1.6

    million provided in uncompensated care

Adventist Health Castle is a full-service medical center offering a wide range of inpatient, outpatient, and home-based services. Our hospital is licensed for 160 beds and is located on the windward side of Oahu. Between our hospital, primary care/specialty clinics, neighbor island outreach and various outpatient services, we provide care for more than 10,000 individuals across the state of Hawaii each year.

Adventist Health Castle has participated in the 340B prescription drug program since 2006. The savings that have been generated through this program have allowed patients in our community to obtain access to care that they would ordinarily not be able to access without the 340B program. Examples include:

  • Provide financial assistance for patients who can’t afford prescriptions (approximately 15% of Oahu’s homeless are on the windward coastline)
  • Provide behavioral health medicine (24% of Oahu’s homeless have at least one mental health diagnosis)
  • Subsidize costly chemotherapy an immunotherapy for Medicaid and underinsured patients at our on-site infusion center
  • Support wellness programs such as:
    • Diabetes education
    • Support groups (grief support, mental health)
    • Healthy nutrition
    • Tobacco cessation
  • Establish OB/GYN and primary care in a rural community
