AHCS Basic EKG Course (2-day class)

Class is a 2 day course. Must attend both days to receive certificate of completion

Basic EKG Interpretation class is for the beginner who has no previous EKG experience or the clinician who has some EKG training but would like a better understanding of the fundamentals of EKG interpretation. This 16-hour class covers basic cardiac anatomy and physiology and single lead interpretation of EKG rhythms with a 20-strip final examination to evaluate competency at the end of Day 2.

Basic EKG Day 1

  • Basic Cardiac Anatomy and Physiology
  • EKG Tracing Basics
    • Lead Placement / View
    • Measuring Time
    • Wave Identification & significance (P, Q, R, S, T, U)
    • Naming a Rhythm
  • Natural Pacemaker Rhythms
    • Sinus Rhythms
    • Atrial Rhythms
    • Junctional Rhythms
    • Ventricular Rhythms
  • Practice!!!

Basic EKG Day 2

  • Heart Blocks
    • 1st degree
    • 2nd degree: Type 1 (Wenckebach), and Type 2 (Mobitz 2)
    • 3rd degree (Complete Heart Block)
  • Enrichment
    • External or Implanted Pacemakers
    • Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome (WPW)
  • Class Practice Strips
  • More Practice!!!
  • Final Exam

Cost: We are currently only accepting check or cash. Please bring a check or cash to the course for the following amount if you are:

  • AH Castle Associates (Required): $0.00
  • ALL other AH Castle Associates (Non-required): $50.00
  • Affiliates (COPE Health Scholars, Windward Surgery, Volunteers): $50.00
  • Public: $100.00

Please arrive on time for your class. Allowing enough time to sign in and make payment, if necessary. To be respectful of other attendees’ time, anyone that is more than 10 minutes late will be turned away from the class. No exceptions will be made.

The Learning & Development Department (located on the 2nd floor of the annex building) does have a limited supply of "Basic Arrhythmias with 12-Lead EKGs" textbooks for AHCS employees only to check out.
