The AHA’s PALS Course has been updated to reflect new science in the 2020 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC. The goal of the PALS Provider Course is to improve outcomes for pediatric patients by preparing healthcare providers to effectively recognize and intervene in patients with respiratory emergencies, shock, and cardiopulmonary arrest by using high-performance team dynamics and high-quality individual skills. This course uses pre-course preparation, didactic instruction, and active participation in learning stations and simulated cases.
You should prepare for the course by doing the following:
- Review and understand the information in your PALS Provider Manual. Pay particular attention to the cases in Part 5.
- Ensure that your BLS skills and knowledge are current for the resuscitation scenarios. You will be tested on adult high-quality BLS skills at the beginning of the ACLS Course. You must know this in advance because you will not be taught how to do CPR or use an AED. Your BLS Provider certification must be current.
- Review, understand, and pass the mandatory pre-course self-assessment. Print your certificate and bring it with you to class. The pre-course self-assessment does not require a code anymore; instead, you will need to create an account on the AHA website.
- Go to the following site: https://www.elearning.heart.org/ Print your scores (certificate) for the Pre-course Self-Assessment and bring them with you to class. A passing score is 70% or above, and you can take the Pre-course Self-Assessment as many times as needed to achieve a passing score.
