HIV Track
The goal of the HIV track is to train clinically competent residents that can provide comprehensive primary care to patients with HIV. By preparing our residents with the best training and well-roundedness at Adventist Health Central Valley Network, it fulfills our mission to live God’s love by inspiring health, wholeness, and hope.
At Hanford Residency, faculty provide residents an opportunity to become HIV specialists. Residents that chose to join the track will become certified through the American Academy of HIV Medicine (AAHIVM). Requirements to become certified include passing a certification exam, providing care to at least 25 HIV infected patients, and ongoing continuing medical education in HIV.
What is rural medicine and how are residents involved?
Rural areas encompass all population, housing and territory not included within an urban area, as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau. Rural Americans face numerous health disparities compared to urban Americans, including limited access to quality healthcare such as primary care and specialty services.
To help increase access to healthcare, Adventist Health in the Central Valley has more than 40 rural health clinics across Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera and Tulare Counties.
Residents of the Hanford Family Medicine Residency program are involved in this effort by providing patient care at a variety of rural health clinics, including at Adventist Health Medical Offices in Hanford, Home Garden and Lemoore.
