Same Day Surgery Program
Surgeries in this program see patients checking in and out of the hospital on the same day they undergo surgery. Several surgical departments participate in this program.
Orthopedic surgery
Orthopedics is the specialty that treats injuries and diseases of the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedists undergo extensive training: four to seven years of orthopedic residency in addition to eight years of college and medical school. This extensive training provides the necessary expertise to properly treat, with non-operative and operative methods, various conditions affecting the bones, joints and muscles.
Some of the orthopedic specialties include:
- Hand surgery
- Foot & ankle surgery
- Joint replacement
- Spine surgery
- Sports medicine
- Shoulder & elbow surgery
After surgery services
Immediately after surgery, patients may be brought to the Recovery Room or Day Surgery Room, depending on the stage of recovery. The Post Anesthesia Care unit is staffed with nurses trained in post anesthesia care. The Post Anesthesia Care nurse monitors the patients when they wake up from anesthesia to ensure they are as comfortable as possible. The length of time patients stay after surgery depends on the procedure, the anesthesia used and the patient's response to both.
Anesthesia
Adventist Health Rideout’s anesthesia team, provide general, spinal and epidural anesthesia, as well as nerve blocks and conscious sedation during endoscopy. In some cases, you may request a specific provider.
