Neuroscience & Neurology

Work with highly experienced neurologists on the West Coast and in Hawaii

Neurological diseases comprise the third largest world health concern after heart disease and cancer. This is why our Adventist Health team works hard to provide you with the most comprehensive care and advanced treatments for neurological disorders.

We provide care for patients suffering from:

  • Cerebrovascular disease, such as stroke
  • Seizure disorders, such as epilepsy
  • Spinal cord disorders
  • Neuromuscular disorders
  • Demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system, such as multiple sclerosis
  • Headache disorders
  • Infections of the brain and peripheral nervous system
  • Movement disorders, such as Parkinson's disease
  • Neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease)
  • Dementia
  • Speech and language disorders

When to see a neurologist

If you are experiencing one or several of the following symptoms, it may be helpful to make an appointment with a neurologist. Your primary care physician will help you evaluate if your symptoms need a neurological evaluation. Be sure to communicate with your primary care provider, as they can alert you to potential neurological needs.

Symptoms that may indicate a neurological disorder include:

  • Headaches
  • Chronic pain
  • Dizziness
  • Numbness or tingling
  • Weakness
  • Movement problems
  • Seizures
  • Vision problems
  • Memory problems or confusion

Preparing for an office visit

Diagnosing a neurologic disorder is in part a partnership between you and your neurologist. Because neurologic symptoms often present over time, be sure to bring your medical history with you to your visit. We’ll want to know all about your symptoms, history and test results to be the most effective in making a diagnosis.

If you have been seen at an Adventist Health clinic, we will have your medical history in our records. If your primary care physician is outside of our network, just call their office to ask for your medical records so you can bring them to your first neurology visit.
