Elbow Treatments
Elbow pain can disrupt your normal daily activities and make it hard to get around. The orthopedic specialists at Adventist Health are here to be your partner in health and help you get relief. If tennis elbow, bursitis or other elbow conditions slow you down, we can help.
Expert surgical and nonsurgical elbow care
Injuries to nerves, tendons and bones can all affect our elbows. Elbow pain often leads to soreness in the wrists in hands. Elbow injuries can worsen over time, so addressing pain quickly is important.
Adventist Health orthopedists are experts at pinpointing the cause of elbow pain. We use the most advanced diagnostic methods to get to the source of your pain and help you choose the best treatment option.
Not all elbow pain requires surgery. We always try to use conservative treatments first, including:
- Pain and anti-inflammatory medications: We can provide oral pain medication or administer medication via injections.
- Bracing: A brace can stabilize the joint to promote proper healing.
- Rest/ice/compression/elevation: Also called RICE, this simple at-home treatment can reduce inflammation and pain.
- Orthopedic rehabilitation: This includes physical therapy and occupational therapy, as well as other treatments.
Our orthopedic surgeons will recommend surgery if they think it is the best way to get you relief. If you require surgery, you’re in the best hands for compassionate, expert care. We perform elbow surgeries such as:
- Elbow joint replacement: Adding an artificial joint can restore mobility when the elbow is severely damaged.
- Elbow arthroscopy: This minimally invasive surgery is used to diagnose and treat many elbow conditions. The doctor makes a small incision and inserts a thin tool with a camera on it to view the area while performing surgery.
- Tennis elbow surgery: Performed arthroscopically or traditionally with a larger incision, this procedure removes the unhealthy portion of a tendon that is causing pain.
- Elbow revision surgery: A revision procedure can replace worn-out surgical implants, break up scar tissue or make adjustments to a previous surgery.
At Adventist Health, we believe that empowered patients heal better. Our nurse navigators provide in-depth education for all patients about how to prepare for surgery as well as what to expect during and after the procedure. Our surgical seminars give you the information you need to have the best experience — and results — possible.
You’re not alone once your surgery is over. We follow up with you to help prevent complications and speed healing. You’ll work with the same team before and after surgery, so you know exactly who to turn to with any questions or concerns.
