Complete surgical and nonsurgical hip care
The orthopedic experts at Adventist Health understand the impact that hip pain has on your life and work with you to help you get relief. When you can move without pain, you can enjoy life more.
Your hip treatment starts with advanced diagnostic techniques. We work to get you an accurate diagnosis so you know exactly what treatment options are appropriate for your health and condition.
Not all hip conditions require surgery. Whenever possible, we recommend conservative treatments, including:
- Joint fluid therapy: Injections lubricate the joint, stimulate the body’s ability to produce its own joint fluid and relieve pain.
- Bracing: A brace can stabilize the joint to promote proper healing.
- Rest/ice/compression/elevation: Also called RICE, this simple at-home treatment can reduce inflammation and pain.
- Alternative treatments: Chiropractic care or acupuncture can be used to alleviate pain.
- Pain and anti-inflammatory medications: We can provide oral medication or administer pain medication via injections.
- Orthopedic rehabilitation: This includes physical therapy and occupational therapy, as well as other treatments based on your individual needs.
When hip surgery is recommended, our orthopedic surgeons will answer all of your questions and make recommendations for care.
We are leaders in hip surgeries such as:
- Hip replacement: We are proud to offer direct anterior hip replacement, a minimally invasive approach. With this surgery, there is no need to cut major muscles, so you recover faster.
- Hip resurfacing: This is a type of hip replacement surgery that does not require removal of the top of the thigh bone. Instead, it is trimmed and capped with a metal covering.
- Hip arthroscopy: Hip arthroscopy is used to diagnose and treat a wide range of problems. The doctor makes a small incision and inserts a thin tool with a camera on it to view the area, while inserting tiny instruments to perform surgery.
- Hip revision surgery: If a past procedure has failed, our surgeons perform revision surgery to remove excess scar tissue or to replace an artificial hip or other components.
At Adventist Health, we believe that we are truly partners in your care. Education is a large part of that partnership. We educate all hip patients about their treatment plans in advance.
Our nurse navigators provide in-depth information for all joint replacement patients about how to prepare for surgery as well as what to expect during and after the procedure. Our surgical seminars educate and help you learn what to expect before, during and after surgery.
You’re not alone once your surgery is over. We follow up with you to help prevent complications and ensure you are healing properly. You’ll work with the same team before and after surgery, so you know exactly who to turn to with any questions or concerns.
