History

St. Helena Hospital was established in 1878 as the Rural Health Retreat. After the turn of the century, St. Helena Hospital became a full-service community facility. In 1969, a new wing opened to house the St. Helena Center for Health, now known as the St. Helena Lifestyle Medicine Institute, thus maintaining the hospital’s emphasis on personal and community wellness. In 1997, the Center for Behavioral Health in Vallejo was acquired to provide mental health care for children, adolescents and adults. In 2007, ground was broken for a 24,000 square foot Cancer Center and Outpatient Pavilion.

Size

151 licensed hospital beds, 61 psychiatric beds and 26 rooms for residential health-enhancement programs.

Affiliations/Accreditation

Adventist Health St. Helena is a member of Adventist Health, a group of 20 acute-care facilities in the western United States sharing the heritage of humanitarian outreach and wellness education characteristic of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. St. Helena Hospital holds teaching affiliations with Napa Valley College, Pacific Union College, Loma Linda University School of Health and Sonoma State University. The hospital is accredited with commendation by The Joint Commission. St. Helena Hospital also operates the St. Helena Hospital Center for Behavioral Health in Vallejo.

Patients

Drawing from a five-county region and beyond, the hospital treats a wide variety of medical problems through approximately 1,383 admissions; 64,121 outpatient visits; and 19,180 emergency department visits each year.

Services

• Adventist Heart Institute—a complete range of cardiac services including two state-of-the-art cardiac cath labs, a nationally recognized heart surgery program, an innovative arrhythmia center, leading-edge peripheral vascular techniques, and an outpatient cardiovascular rehabilitation program.
• Coon Joint Replacement Institute—specializes in innovations in hip and knee joint replacement; ranked among the high volume centers in the west; rated top 1% by Medicare; ranked as top 1% selected by Becker’s Hospital Review for “Great Orthopedic Programs”.
• Medical/Surgical Services—a broad scope of services includes minimally invasive, thoracic, orthopedic, urological, ob-gyn, plastic/reconstructive surgery, gastro-intestinal laboratory and medical, monitored and intensive care.
• Emergency Care—An eight-bed center is open 24/7 for urgent medical needs; designated a STEMI (heart attack) receiving center; helipad.
• St. Helena Recovery Center Program—Programs for alcohol and drug addiction recovery include medical detoxification, a 12-step based residential program and an outpatient program.
• Martin-O’Neil Cancer Center— A comprehensive center features medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, chemotherapy and state of the art radiation therapy; affiliation with UCSF; whole-person care philosophy.
• Behavioral Health—Adventist Health Vallejo campus offers child, adolescent and adult inpatient treatment, adult partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient care. The Adventist Health St. Helena campus offers adult inpatient care. St. Helena Medical Specialties offers adult outpatient care.
• Women's Health Care–St. Helena Women’s Center has offices in Napa and St. Helena in Napa County; Clearlake and Hidden Valley in Lake County. The Women's Mammography Center in downtown St. Helena offers bone density testing and high quality digital mammography.

Programs

• Home Care—St. Helena Home Care Services offers high quality care at home for Napa and Lake County residents.
• Occupational Health—Our JobCare program, located at St. Helena Hospital, offers injury-related services, physical exams, medical testing and screening, immunizations, employee training, ergonomic assessment and OSHA compliance services.
• Physical Therapy—Outpatient rehabilitation services are available at the hospital and in downtown St. Helena.
• Napa Valley Hospice—a joint venture between St. Helena Hospital and Queen of the Valley Hospital that offers dignity and loving care to those with life-limiting illnesses.
