Outpatient Program with Partial Hospitalization

The partial hospitalization program is designed to serve adults suffering acute symptoms of psychiatric disorders. This program is designed to teach skills that will minimize or eliminate the need for inpatient hospitalization. This allows the participants to remain in their community and living situation. Aftercare planning is emphasized and participants are assisted in transitioning to lower levels of care as they respond to treatment and gain increased levels of self-sufficiency.

A daily schedule, five days a week from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., offers a variety of interventions including:

  • Life skills group: This assists the individual in developing the coping skills necessary to manage functional deficits associated with serious and persistent mental illness within the most free environment possible.
  • Illness management: This educates and assists the individual in learning to identify and cope with the symptoms associated with serious and persistent mental illness. The goal is symptom reduction and maintenance of stability of symptoms.
  • Focus group: This intervention provides a group environment where individuals explore and process their feelings and problems about their diagnosis while encouraging each member to focus on issues that directly relate to relapse and/or recovery.
  • Medication education/health matters: Commonly facilitated by a registered nurse, this group session focuses on exploring how medications, side effects, diet and the use of drugs and/or alcohol affect various symptoms. The goal is to help each member understand and manage their individual medication regime in addition to developing a healthy lifestyle.
  • Individual therapy: Individual sessions between the client and the clinical staff focus on the development of a treatment plan and offering the client an opportunity to give feedback on their experience in the program.
  • Family therapy/case conference: This offers the individual the opportunity to hold family therapy and/or case conference sessions to support the client’s recovery on an as-needed basis.
  • Cognitive therapy: This therapy provides a framework from which the client can gain an understanding of the connections between thoughts, feelings and behaviors. The client will examine different ways to perceive and manage the thoughts, feeling and behaviors that tend to exacerbate their illness.

The program also provides:

  • A licensed or license-eligible clinician to facilitate all sessions
  • Psychotherapeutic, psychoeducational and creative arts therapy techniques
  • Round-trip transportation for participants who cannot transport themselves
  • Lunch and snacks at no charge
  • An individual session with an attending psychiatrist at a minimum of once per week
