Healthgrades once again names White Memorial one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals! The 100 recipients of the America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™ stand out among the rest for overall clinical excellence across a broad spectrum of care. Getting this award two years in a row is a testament to the dedication of our employees to serve the healthcare needs of our community.
Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award and Target Stroke Elite Plus Honor Roll
For the third year in a row, the American Heart Association (AHA) and American Stroke Association have recognized White Memorial’s Stroke Program with its Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award and Target Stroke Elite Plus Honor Roll Award for our success in using AHA’s Get with the Guideline® protocols to improve quality of care for stroke patients.
Certified as a Chest Pain Center from the Society for Cardiovascular Patient Care
The Society of Cardiovascular Care combines evidence-based science, quality initiatives, ACC/AHA guidelines and clinical best-practices to produce the most effective care delivery model for LOW-RISK, NSTE-ACS, STEMI and Resuscitation. Facilities with this designation have a robust detailed transfer (referral) protocol in place which addresses transfer procedures and/or potential fibrinolytic therapy if the expected first medical contact to intervention time will exceed 120 minutes. Their plans will also include written agreements with EMS ground transport agencies, air transport agencies and receiving Centers where they send patients for Primary PCI. This recognition was engineered by a team of over 50 nationally recognized healthcare leaders with specialties in emergency and observation medicine, interventional cardiology, hospitalist, executive administration, social work, nursing, information technology and governmental policies.

This distinction makes White Memorial one of the top 2% of more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide for its consistent, year-over-year superior clinical performance as measured by Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. The 100 recipients of the America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™ stand out among the rest for overall clinical excellence across a broad spectrum of care. During the 2016 study period (2012 - 2014), these hospitals showed superior performance in clinical outcomes for patients in the Medicare population across at least 21 of 32 of the most common inpatient conditions and procedures – as measured by objective performance data (risk-adjusted mortality and in-hospital complications). “Grade A” 2016 Spring/Fall Hospital Safety Score™
The Leapfrog Group’s Hospital Safety Score is the only independent ratings program that focuses exclusively on how hospitals work to keep their patients safe. Calculated under the guidance of the Leapfrog Group’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety scores uses 26 measures of safety data to produce a single score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from infections, injuries, medical and medication scores. This award is a testament to our unyielding commitment to serve the needs of our patients and our community. (May 2016)

For the last two years, the American Heart Association (AHA) and American Stroke Association has recognized White Memorial’s Stroke Program with its Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award and Target Stroke Elite Plus Honor Roll Award for our success in using AHA’s Get with the Guideline® protocols to improve quality of care for stroke patients. White Memorial is one of only 172 hospitals in the entire country to have achieved this highest distinction – earning us a mention in U.S. New & World Report’s annual “Best Hospitals” issue. America’s Best Hospitals for Patient Safety
The Women’s Choice Award® recognizes White Memorial as a hospital of choice among women. This evidence-based designation is the only patient safety award that identifies the country’s best healthcare institutions based on robust criteria that considers female patient satisfaction and clinical excellence. Hospitals that have earned this award have had a low incidence of problems arising from surgical errors and infections. (March 2016)

Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence
HealthGrades Inc., America’s leading online resource for consumers looking to choose a doctor or hospital, ranks the best hospitals and doctors based on three years of clinical data. This recognition places WMMC in the top five percentile of hospitals in the nation who showed superior performance in caring for patients in the Medicare population. (March 2015)
Grade “A” for Safety – Fall 2015
Patient Safety organization, the Leapfrog Group, has published its newest results for hospital safety scores, with a list of the 782 safest U.S. hospitals that earned the top score of “A.” This year, Leapfrog scored 2,523 hospitals and only 30% of them received an “A” in safety. White Memorial was part of this select group. (November 2015)
Foster G. McGraw Prize – Excellence in Community Service
Sponsored by The Baxter International Foundation & the American Hospital Association and Health Research & Education Trust, this award was given in recognition of White Memorial’s community health initiatives and its continuous commitment to providing the highest quality care and serving as a role model for improving the health and wellbeing of the people in the community. U.S. News & World Report
U.S. News & World Report ranked White Memorial Medical Center #15 in its Best Regional Hospitals Ranking for the Los Angeles Metro Area and #28 in the State of California. (2015)
Platinum Fit Friendly Worksite Designation
White Memorial’s employee Wellness Program W@W was recognized as a Platinum Level Recipient of the American Heart Association’s Fit-Friendly Worksites Recognition program. Our hospital was recognized for making the health and wellness of our employees a priority by offering healthy eating options, fitness programs, wellness workshops, an on-site gym and demonstrating measurable outcomes related to workplace wellness. Stroke Program Silver Plus Quality Achievement Award
The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association recognized WMMC’s Stroke Program with the Silver Plus Quality Achievement Award for its success in using Get With The Guidelines® to improve quality of care for stroke patients. The award acknowledges the program’s success with raising stroke awareness in the community and education of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) teams. The program maintains a 22% tPA treatment rate compared to the 10% national average. (March 2015)
Pediatric Medical Center Designation
WMMC was recently named a Pediatric Medical Center (PMC), a state certification indicating an advanced level of care for critically ill children. (March 2015)
Baby-Friendly Designation
By receiving the Baby-Friendly Designation for our promotion of breastfeeding and mother/baby bonding, WMMC has achieved the Gold Standard in mother/ baby care, placing us amongst the prestigious 10% of hospitals nationwide that can call themselves Baby-Friendly! (April 2015)
Innovation Award for Public Education
WMMC was recognized by the Los Angeles County Medical Association for its health education television programs “Tu Mundo Hoy” and “Your World Today” that empower patients to make decisions about their health to minimize illness, improve quality of life, make medical information accessible and usable, and advance the physician/patient relationship. Women’s Choice Award – Obstetrics
WMMC is honored to be amongst one of America’s Best Hospitals for Obstetrics. This annual distinction identifies the country’s best hospitals based on robust criteria that considers female patient satisfaction, clinical excellence and what thousands of moms say they want from a hospital. Women’s Choice Award – Stroke
White Memorial was named recipient of the 2015 Women’s Choice Award as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Stroke Care. Hospitals earning the Stroke Care Award must be accredited by the Joint Commission/ASA as an Advanced Primary Care Stroke Center or an Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center. (March 2015)

One of L.A.’s Cleanest Hospitals
White Memorial was ranked top 10 cleanest in Los Angeles for the cleanliness of its rooms and bathrooms according to data published by Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services. (2014)
Family Residency Program #1 in the State
White Memorial’s Family Residency Program has been consistently ranked among the top three programs in California by the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) including the number one ranking in seven of the past 10 years in recognition of the program’s quality of training, the placement of graduates in the areas of biggest need, and for recruiting ethnic minorities and women to the program. ED Team Top 10 Percent in Nation
PRC recognized WMMC’s Emergency Department (ED) with its 5-star Award for Perception of Overall Quality of Care. This award is given to facilities in the 90th percentile in overall quality of care and patient satisfaction, placing our ED Team in the top 10 percent in the nation. PRC also recognized our hospital with three additional 5-star Awards for physician satisfaction in: Administration, Pathology Services and Medical Records. (2014)
2013
Best Levels of Health & Wellness
Our Diabetes Programs have consistently been recognized for its commitment to achieve the best levels of health and wellness for our community. In 2013 the American Diabetes Association recognized White Memorial’s Diabetes Self-Management Education Program. Additionally, UniHealth Foundation awarded the program a three-year $1,050,000 grant to enhance the program’s continuum of care and outpatient setting, and to meet the requirement of new health care policies. 5-Star Award for Perception of Overall Quality of Care
Professional Research Consultants (PRC) is a research-marketing firm dedicated to the improvement of health care nationwide, enabling organizations to make better decisions about their health care practices. PRC recognized White Memorial’s Emergency Department (ED) with the 5-Star Award for Perception of Overall Quality of Care in the ED, an award given to facilities in the 90th percentile in overall quality of care, placing our ED team in the top 10 percent in the nation. Our ED has received this award for 8 consecutive years. (2013)
