Our Neighbors and Partners
Strengthening and fostering the health and well-being of our communities goes far beyond our front doors into our local neighborhoods and our community partners.
As a non-profit organization, we rely on community partners to help us to provide the wide range of services we offer patients and the broader community. We invest in the efforts of local non-profits and build partnerships with a variety of community-based organizations that share our mission and values. In response, members of our community express their support for White Memorial in a wide variety of ways, including volunteerism, advocacy and philanthropy.
In the past we committed to building stronger ties with schools, churches and other civic organizations in our neighborhood as a way of creating a broader network of community resources dedicated to improving the quality of life of our neighbors. During the last two years, we reinvigorated our community outreach efforts locally through a volunteer speakers bureau composed of White Memorial doctors, board members and leadership.
The Community Leadership Council is another product of our outreach efforts. This group, a subcommittee of our Governing Board, includes about 15 people who come from educational institutions, churches, law enforcement agencies, local governments and other civic organizations. The council works with White Memorial staff and physicians to keep abreast of the community’s needs and guide outreach efforts, such as community health and wellness activities.
In some cases, our community partners provide services that White Memorial, for various reasons, might not be able to offer at any given time. For example, to off-set reductions in our complementary services to seniors, we welcomed a new satellite office of the Mexican-American Opportunity Foundation (MAOF) to our campus.
In this office, seniors are able to getbus tokens for transportation to their hospital appointments. Also in collaboration with MAOF, we have been able to expand our health education and wellness programs for seniors in surrounding neighborhoods.
