Many rewarding volunteer & internship opportunities are available for you at Adventist Health White Memorial. You can make a positive impact on our patients, our hospital, and our community - all while enjoying valuable growth and networking opportunities for yourself!

Volunteers & Interns make a real difference in the lives of our patients, visitors and staff members. As a Volunteer/Intern, you'll work with our hospital staff to provide quality care to patients and assist in meeting the needs of our patients and their families and visitors.

Our department provides two different programs:

Healthcare Workforce Development Internship Program

This program is supported by grants and is for applicants attending high school/college (ages 15-25). The Healthcare Workforce Development Program provides experience and training in the healthcare environment and workforce development skills, such as resume building, interview preparation, etc.

Volunteer Ambassadors Program

Volunteer Ambassadors provide service to the hospital and the community on a short-term and long- term basis and/or focus on the cultural learning experience. *Ages 15 1/2 up.

All we ask is that you are prepared to provide quality customer care and service to our patients and staff.

Requirements for volunteering & internships:

  • English speaking required. Bilingual Preferred.
  • Residing in the following primary service area zip codes: (90033, 90001, 90011, 90012, 90015, 90017, 90021, 90022, 90023, 90031, 90032, 90040, 90042, 90058, 90063, 90065, 90071, 90255, 90270, and 90640).
  • PPD tuberculosis (TB) skin test done within 2 months of application date. If history of positive PPD: Copy of chest x-ray results done within 3 years of actual start date.
  • Documentation of negative TB test (or negative chest x-ray for TB)
  • Proof of appropriate immunizations (i.e., MMR-Measles, mumps, and rubella)
  • Varicella titer (only if you have had Chicken Pox) or immunization if you desire to work with children.
  • Influenza Vaccine Seasonal
  • COVID-19 Vaccine. Adventist Health requires COVID-19 primary vaccination series or an approved medical/religious exemption for all healthcare personnel, per the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Joint Commission (TJC) regulatory requirement. The COVID-19 first booster dose will no longer be required for healthcare personnel and providers in California per the (CDPH) unless required by local public health.
  • Background checks will be conducted if the participant is 18 years or older. Social Security is required. Individuals who refuse to comply with this requirement will not be allowed to enroll in the program.
  • If you are accepted into the program, as a high school student (16 years or older) a valid, issued photo identification (school identification) will be required.
  • Students 17 years old and up are required to provide a valid, government-issued photo ID with your signature i.e.: unexpired driver's license, government issued identification card, military identification or passport).

  • $5 complimentary meal ticket when you volunteer for 4 or more hours in 1 day.

  • Opportunity to participate in Adventist Health White Memorial associate activities such as the annual picnic, ice cream socials and holiday celebrations.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE: Our program does not provide the opportunity to shadow physicians, nurses, or other health care providers, nor do we allow volunteers to perform any sort of medical procedures.
