The Revitalization of Downtown Los Angeles

In 2003, the City of Los Angeles launched its Downtown Revitalization Project – a partnership between the public and private sectors – to create a downtown celebrating the city’s rich cultural diversity, corporate culture and history. Just minutes from downtown Los Angeles, White Memorial Medical Center is experiencing the fruits of this revitalization.

The downtown revitalization includes:

  • Renovating and transforming historic office buildings into modern residential buildings and lofts
  • Working with businesses and others to create jobs, housing and increased tourism
  • Expanding the Metrolink Gold Line to East Los Angeles, which will include a station just across from White Memorial’s south entrance
  • Improving streetscapes to re-energize pedestrian activity
  • Linking downtown to Exposition Park at the University of Southern California through improved public transportation
  • Developing a new BioMedical Park adjacent to the USC Health Sciences Campus near White Memorial
