Adventist Health White Memorial is in the Boyle Heights area on the eastern edge of Downtown Los Angeles. We sit in the heart of a bustling multicultural neighborhood. Our community is filled with young working families, of which about 87% are Latinx and 30% are monolingual Spanish speakers. Across all our residency programs, residents benefit from an experience rich in cultural and economic diversity.
East Los Angeles is a federally designated medically underserved community. About 30% of our patients rely on Medi-Cal and other government sources of payment. Because our patients often encounter challenges in accessing healthcare, many of our patients are disproportionately affected by chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension or hyperlipidemia.
Through our residency programs and hospital services, we aim to identify and support community-wide health needs. Residents participate in community health screenings and clinics and often follow their own cohort of patients throughout their residency.
We serve a diverse patient population, and residents must provide healthcare with a spirit of compassion and cultural humility. In each of our programs, residents bond through Adventist Health’s unique mission to bring health, wholeness and hope.
Residents also enjoy life in the heart of Los Angeles. Our hospital is within easy access to museums, concert centers and sports stadiums. Located near Olvera Street, the site of the original “Pueblo de Los Angeles,” our community is rich in Hispanic tradition and culture.
