Led by experts in podiatry and vascular disease, the center coordinates multidisciplinary care with other specialists in infectious disease, endocrinology, cardiology, nephrology and neurology. Our compassionate and culturally competent specialists incorporate the latest technologies that enable us to provide innovative wound healing practices and expertise in limb health and preservation.

Brian D. Johnston, MD

Brian D. Johnston, MDDr. Johnston has held a variety of leadership positions at Adventist Health White Memorial (AHWM) and has treated patients here since 1975. He served 38 years as the Medical Director of the hospital’s Emergency Department, two terms as president of the AHWM Medical Staff, and is currently chair of the Emergency Medicine Department. Dr. Johnston holds a medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco and completed his internal medicine residency at Harbor Medical Center in Torrance. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and has served on the teaching staff at several local hospitals. Dr. Johnston is fluent in English, Spanish and French.


Stanley K. Mathis, DPM

Stanley K. Mathis, DPMDr. Mathis is a doctor of podiatric medicine (DPM) and currently serves as the co-medical director of AHWM’s Limb Preservation and Advanced Wound Care Center. He has also served as the director of Podiatric Medical Education at AHWM since 2003. Dr. Mathis is board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and earned his DPM from the California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco. He served his podiatric surgical residency at the Doctor’s Hospital of Santa Ana. Dr. Mathis is president and CEO of the Podiatric Residency Institute, Inc., which is responsible for the organization and management of local podiatric surgical residency programs. He is fluent in English and Spanish.


Jessica Meir, MD

Jessica Meir, MDDr. Meir is a board-certified neurologist who specializes in treating diseases of the nervous system, including the central and peripheral nervous system and conditions resulting from diabetes and other health issues. She earned her medical degree at Albany Medical College in New York. Dr. Meir served a clinical neurophysiology fellowship at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and a neurology residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance.


Lee Squitieri, MD, PhD, MS

Lee Squitieri, MDDr. Squitieri is a plastic surgeon with expertise in both aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. She has a special interest in breast reconstruction, complex wound management, and limb preservation. Dr. Squitieri graduated from MIT and earned her MD/MS degree at the University of Michigan. She completed her plastic surgery training at USC and earned her PhD in health policy and management at UCLA. Dr. Squitieri strongly believes in the doctor-patient relationship and takes pride in her integrity, honesty and natural looking surgical results. She is committed to delivering compassionate and personalized care to every patient.


Byron K. Williams, MD

Byron K. Williams, MDDr. Williams is doctor of internal medicine at AHWM and applies scientific knowledge and clinical expertise to the diagnosis, treatment, and compassionate care of adults. He earned his medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington D.C. and is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Williams completed his internal medicine residency at LA County/USC Medical and served as chief medical resident; he served a clinical fellowship in infectious diseases.


Charles Ananian, DPM

Dr. Ananian is a doctor of podiatric medicine (DPM) and specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of the foot, conditions resulting from diabetes and other health issues. He’s been serving patients at AHWM since 2006. Dr. Ananian is board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and earned his DPM from the California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco Bay area. He served his podiatric surgical residency at the Veterans Administration in West Los Angeles and Olive View-UCLA Medical Center.


Spencer Doty, CPO, MBA

A member of the AHWM team since 2014, Spencer Doty is a certified prosthetist and orthotist and works with amputees to replace lost limbs, restore function and improve their quality of life. He is certified in orthotics and prosthetics by the American Board for Certification for Orthotics and Prosthetics. Mr. Doty holds degrees in orthotics from Northwestern University and prosthetics from California State University, Dominguez Hills. He is also the CEO of Active Life, Inc., which specializes in a variety of orthotic and prosthetic services and devices.​


Jose Ponce, DPM

Dr. Ponce is a doctor of podiatric medicine (DPM) and joined the medical team at AHWM in August, 2015. He completed his undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences with emphasis in Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior at UC Davis and went on to Midwestern University in Glendale, Ariz. to complete his medical school training. Dr. Ponce completed his residency in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center and affiliated hospitals, where he was trained in reconstructive foot, rear foot and ankle surgeries, limb salvage and management of problem lower extremity wounds.
