OHSU and Legacy Health Announce New Product Partnership with PacificSource Health Plans
Two of Portland’s largest hospital and healthcare delivery systems announce a new partnership with PacificSource Health Plans that brings together leading provider delivery systems with an Oregon-based health plan. Legacy Health and the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) health system are working with PacificSource to introduce new health plan product offerings to the market beginning January, 2020.
The collaboration will enhance PacificSource’s existing products in the Portland metropolitan area by offering highly competitive health benefit plans, initially focused on the small and large employer market segments. Combined, employers provide health coverage for nearly one million residents within Portland’s tri-county region. Both employed and closely affiliated providers of each hospital system will participate in the comprehensive provider network that anchors this collaboration. Together, the provider network includes ten Portland area hospitals, including the six Legacy Health and four OHSU health system hospitals, in addition to clinic and care locations across the metro area and more than 5200 providers.
“For the past 86 years, PacificSource has remained dedicated to serving the health care needs of communities throughout the Pacific Northwest,” said Ken Provencher, president and CEO of PacificSource. “Employers in our region continue to grapple with the rising cost associated with providing comprehensive health benefits to their workforce. We are excited to be working closely with Portland’s health delivery innovators and market share leaders who, through this collaboration, will simultaneously apply the latest advances in patient care with proven practices to manage both the cost and quality of care for local employers and their workforce.”
“We are pleased to further our strong partnership with PacificSource by becoming part of this new product network,” said Kathryn Correia, president and CEO of Legacy Health. “We believe this network will offer patients broad choice and high-quality care, while helping employers manage costs.”
“OHSU is Portland’s largest employer and the state’s most comprehensive academic and health sciences research center,” said Dr. John Hunter, CEO of the OHSU health system. “Our goal is to leverage those tremendous strengths to advance the way providers, payers, and community organizations work together to improve the health of an entire region. We started by partnering with Tuality and Adventist Health to create the OHSU Health System. Creating a comprehensive network with Legacy is a bold new step for OHSU, further advancing our mission to provide health and health care to all Oregonians.”
The products resulting from this collaboration were submitted for approval in mid-May 2019 by PacificSource to the Oregon Office of Insurance Commissioner. Additional details about these health benefit designs will be available mid-summer 2019.
