National Accreditation for Bariatric Surgery Program
Patients seeking surgical treatment for obesity and its related conditions have a high-quality choice for receiving care at a nationally accredited program that meets the highest standards for patient safety and quality in the Yuba-Sutter region.
Dr. Arturo Garcia, bariatric surgery director at Adventist Health and Rideout, announced that the bariatric surgery program has been accredited as a Low Acuity Center by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP®), a joint Quality Program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).
“Our passion is providing excellent care so that our patients achieve healthier, longer lives,” says Garcia. “This accreditation is a gratifying validation that our commitment to high quality standards is being achieved. When patients choose us for weight loss surgery, they can be confident they are receiving the great care they deserve.”
Adventist Health and Rideout’s commitment to quality care begins with expertly trained staff and the leadership of an experienced bariatric surgeon. The program is tasked with continuous review of surgical data as they continue improving the structure and outcomes expertise necessary to provide safe, efficacious, and high-quality care to all metabolic and bariatric patients.
To earn MBSAQIP Accreditation, Adventist Health and Rideout met essential criteria for staffing, training, facility infrastructure and patient care pathways, ensuring its ability to support patients with obesity. The center also participates in a national data registry that yields semiannual reports on the quality of its surgical outcomes and identifying opportunities for quality improvement.
Adventist Health and Rideout’s bariatric surgery program provides whole-person assessment and support for patients and two minimally invasive surgical techniques, gastric bypass and vertical sleeve gastrectomy (gastric sleeve). The team is led by Dr. Garcia and includes a nurse practitioner, quality performance registered nurse, licensed clinical social worker and registered dietitian
“Adventist Health and Rideout is committed to serving the Yuba-Sutter region with high quality care and advanced techniques delivered by skilled, compassionate providers,” says Rick Rawson, Adventist Health and Rideout president. “I am proud of our bariatric surgery program for achieving this rigorous accreditation. They are an excellent example of the improvements we are making each day to better care for our community.”
