Class is a 2-day course. Must attend both days to receive certificate of completion
The AHA’s ACLS Provider Course has been updated to reflect new science in the 2020 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC, as well as the 2019 Update to the 2018 ASA Ischemic Stroke Guidelines. ACLS teaches the importance of preventing cardiac arrest, high-performance teams, continuous high-quality CPR, systems of care, recognition and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest, post-cardiac arrest care, acute dysrhythmias, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes (ACS). The goal of the ACLS Provider Course is to improve outcomes for adult patients of cardiac arrest and other cardiopulmonary emergencies through early recognition and interventions by high-performance teams.
Upcoming dates:
- March 5 and 7, 2024
- July 24 and 26, 2024
- November 19 and 21, 2024
Prerequisites requirements:
You should prepare for class by doing the following:
- Review and understand the information in your ACLS Provider Manual. Pay attention to the cases in Part 5.
- Review, understand, and pass the mandatory pre-course self-assessment. Print your certificate and bring it with you to class. The pre-course self-assessment does not require a code anymore; instead you will need to create an account on the AHA website (https://www.elearning.heart.org/).
- Ensure that your BLS skills and knowledge are current for the resuscitation scenarios. At the beginning of the ACLS Course, you will be tested on adult high-quality BLS skills, using a feedback manikin.
ACLS provider course:
- Systemic approach (assessment)
- High-quality BLS
- Airway management
- Rhythm recognition
- Defibrillation
- Intravenous (IV)/intraosseous (IO) access (information only)
- Use of medications

Bring your ACLS Provider Manual to class. You will need it during each lesson in the course. You may wish to purchase the AHA’s Handbook of Emergency Cardiovascular Care for Healthcare Providers (optional), which you may bring to class to use as a reference guide during some of the learning stations. The Learning & Development Department (located on the 2nd floor of the annex building) does have a limited supply of ACLS Provider Manual’s for AHCS employees to check out.
