Occupational Therapy in Portland
Supportive services to help you live a fuller life
Adventist Health Portland’s Occupational Therapy program is in the business of helping you get back to the business of living your life. Our focus on your whole-person health is easily seen in our approach to occupational therapy.
Located on the campus of Adventist Health in southeast Portland and at Gresham Station, we are here to help you live your life to the fullest, no matter your diagnosis or condition.
Our therapists really listen to what your concerns are. We want to understand your personal goals for recovery and improvement. What do you want to achieve? We want to know so we can partner with you to create a therapy plan customized for your life, not just your diagnosis.
Defining occupational therapy
Occupational Therapy is concerned with how you use your body during your typical activities — those “occupations” you do throughout your day, in the process of going through your normal life.
That means our job is to help you reach your goals for returning to your normal lifestyle after an injury or surgery or making everyday tasks easier if you’re living with a disability or long-term condition.
Part of your treatment may include physical exercises to help you with specific activities. Our occupational therapists will look at how you do your daily tasks and give you advice on how to make it easier and safer to live your life.
When your condition requires it, we collaborate directly with our physical therapy team to provide comprehensive care for your unique needs. We can also suggest equipment to help you adapt to your world better and guide your family or caregiver how to help you reach your goals.
How we can help
Our occupational therapists are specially educated and trained in how to help you evaluate your condition, home and/or workplace and to make a custom treatment plan to help you achieve your goals for daily living.
We offer 60-minute treatment sessions to give us a chance to really work with you and more fully help you during each visit.
Our patients include people recovering from injury, surgery, stroke and other sudden changes in their condition. Other patients are living with long-term disabilities or conditions. We also treat a variety of pediatric conditions.
Regardless of why you need therapy, our occupational therapists are prepared to help you get the most out of life. We help by evaluating your unique situation, partnering with you to make a treatment plan and helping you through each step toward achieving your goals.
Some of the conditions we see most frequently include:
- Neurological conditions like stroke and Parkinson’s disease
