Portland Stroke Care
Thorough, prompt stroke treatment
Call 911 if you or someone near you has a life-threatening emergency.
The mission of the stroke program at Adventist Health Portland is to reduce stroke-related death and disability in east Portland and our broader community. We do this by:
- Providing stroke-expert emergency care for a rapid response that ensures the best possible outcome.
- Partnering with OHSU for telestroke care, telemedicine and virtual ICU collaboration.
- Working as a stroke team, which includes doctors, nurses, therapists, social workers, dietitians, chaplains and other specialized staff members.
- Customizing care for each patient while following American Stroke Association guidelines.
- Connecting patients with follow-up care, including speech, occupational and physical therapy and home health rehabilitation when needed.
Stroke prevention and education
Helping people avoid stroke is a top priority. Education about risks and screenings helps our patients and community avoid strokes. We also work with people with specific risks to make lifestyle changes and treatments to lower their chance of a stroke. One example is the WATCHMAN device for patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (AFib), a procedure offered by our Northwest Regional Heart & Vascular.
