Lactation support in our clinics

Supporting you in breastfeeding long after you leave the hospital

Learning to breastfeed is a journey that can take weeks and even months for parents and babies to learn together. That’s why we provide ongoing breastfeeding support through a board-certified lactation consultant at our Adventist Health Women’s Clinic in both Portland and Clackamas.

A lactation consultant can guide you through successful breastfeeding techniques and help you troubleshoot breastfeeding issues and work through challenges. They specialize in:

  • Achieving and maintaining a good latch
  • Feeding positions
  • Baby’s weight gain needs
  • Engorgement, plugged ducts and mastitis
  • Supporting milk production
  • Milk expression, pumping and storage
  • Learning baby’s feeding cues and behavior
  • Supplementation
  • Bottle feeding
  • Emotional support and education

If you’re struggling with breastfeeding, you’re not alone. Every baby is different. Whether you're having your first baby or your fifth, we partner with you to make a breastfeeding plan that works for you both.
