Shoulder Treatments
Although the shoulder joint is very mobile, the shoulder joint is also less stable, relying on just four muscles around the rotator cuff to help move and provide stability. It’s these muscles that are a common source of pain. Conditions that may require surgery include rotator cuff tears, impingement, shoulder fractures and dislocations.

Complete surgical and nonsurgical shoulder care
You don’t have to live with shoulder pain that prevents you from working and doing the activities you enjoy. Our orthopedic surgeon uses the most advanced diagnostic techniques to get to the cause of your shoulder pain and recommend the best treatment options.
Not all shoulder pain requires surgery. When appropriate, we offer nonsurgical shoulder treatments, such as:
- Joint fluid therapy: Injections lubricate the joint stimulating the body’s ability to produce its own joint fluid and relieve pain.
- Pain and anti-inflammatory medications: We can provide oral medication or administer pain medication via injections.
- Orthopedic rehabilitation: This includes physical therapy and occupational therapy, as well as other treatments.
- Bracing: A brace can stabilize the joint to promote proper healing.
- Rest/ice/compression/elevation: Also called RICE, this simple at-home treatment can reduce inflammation and pain.
- Alternative treatments: Chiropractic care or acupuncture can be used to alleviate pain.
Sometimes a shoulder injury or condition requires repair. Adventist Health Tillamook’s orthopedic surgeon is a leader in the field and offers the most advanced shoulder surgeries, including:
- Rotator cuff repair: Rotator cuff surgery repairs a torn tendon in the shoulder.
- Shoulder arthroscopy: Arthroscopy is used to diagnose and treat shoulder issues. The doctor makes a small incision and inserts a thin tool with a camera on it to view the area and perform surgery.
- Cartilage repair: Performed arthroscopically, this procedure repairs damaged cartilage.
- Dislocation/shoulder stabilization: This process involves placing the ball of the upper arm bone back into the joint socket. Pain relief is almost immediate once the joint is back in place.
- Fracture repair: This surgical procedure utilizes screws and plates to ensure proper healing of the bones.
- Bone spur removal: This arthroscopic procedure is designed to remove the bone spur.
- Tendon/ligament repair: This arthroscopic procedure requires reattaching the labrum or tightening of the ligaments.
